The JRCC Hebrew School is committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff. In order to maintain a healthy and safe environment we established the COVID-19 policy outlined below, aligned with the Ministry of Education in Ontario. We want to assure you that this policy will be implemented in our schools throughout the 2020/2021 school year and will be updated according to the situation.
Clearly, the JRCC Hebrew School, would like to have students back in class this school year, learning through conventional delivery with school every week, with class sizes that reflect current regulations, with regular social interaction and extra-curricular activities.
The return to school in the year of 2020-21 is voluntary and based on parent choice. For parents who choose not to send their child back to school, the JRCC Hebrew Schools are prepared to offer remote education on Thursdays between 5:00pm – 6:30pm. This option is in place for as long as public health circumstances require adapted delivery of education.
Our staff will be provided with sufficient training on the health and safety protocols and required adaptations before the school year begins and as the situation evolves. Campus Access Parents or persons not enrolled or required inside the campus will not be allowed entry. There will be a contactless pick-up/drop-off system for parents to sign their children in/out. A daily health screening questionnaire will be required for every individual entering the campus to ensure that no ill or exposed individuals risk infection spread.
Periods of student movement will be planned to limit student congregation in the hallways. Congregation of teachers/staff will be limited to minimize potential for adult-to-adult transmission. Students in class will sit at least 2 meters from each other. Group activities will be planned to ensure that distancing remains in effect.
Our school will maintain a cleaning program to prevent viral spread:
*Frequent cleaning and disinfecting working areas in class, toys, chairs tables, area rugs.
* Cleaning plus disinfection before school starts: includes washrooms (for example, toilet fixtures, faucets), eating areas (for example, tables, sinks, countertops), doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, touch screens, push buttons, handrails, computers, photocopiers, sports equipment.*
*Use of shared objects (for example, education equipment, art supplies, toys, games) will be limited when possible, or the objects will be sanitized between each use.
*Staff and students will provide, age-appropriate education in proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.
*Hand hygiene must be conducted by anyone entering the school and will be incorporated into the daily schedule at regular intervals during the day, beyond what is usually recommended before/after food or bathroom use.
The JRCC Hebrew School will ensure that bathrooms are cleaned frequently and that there is an adequate supply of soap at all times. Paper hand towels will be provided to avoid common surfaces. At this time our bathrooms are all single use. Should we ever have bathrooms with multiple stalls, a system will be in place to stagger use and ensure social distancing
To the greatest extent possible, students will be encouraged to eat snack in their classroom with their cohort to ensure chances of contact and transmission are minimized. With respect to eating and drinking at school, it is required that:
*Staff and students to perform proper hand hygiene before and after eating.
* Each student have their own individual snack with no common food items or serving utensils.
*Each student required to bring their own drink bottle that is labeled, kept with them during the day and not shared. Rules for personal belongings Personal belongings brought to school should be minimized. Personal items being brought to school must be contained in one bag or backpack to be kept with the child by their place.
Staff and students from grades 4 and up will be required to wear masks.
Together we will keep ourselves and our community safe.
